Police car 'not on emergency call, with sirens off' knocks over pedestrian in Camberwell

A man was injured in a road traffic collision involving a police car driving through traffic.

The pedestrian was struck outside a small shopping centre at the junction of Camberwell New Road and Denmark Hill, south London, just before 11.45am this morning.

A police spokeswoman said the car was not responding to an emergency call and did not have sirens on.

She said: "We were called at 11.42am this morning to reports of a man in collision with a vehicle on the A215 at Denmark Hill. The road was closed southbound.

"The man's injuries are not life-threatening. He was by the London Ambulance Service to a south London Hospital.

"The vehicle involved was an MPS Safer Neighbourhoods vehicle. It was not responding to an emergency call."

Twitter user and trainee journalist Kate Lendd wrote: “Looks like a police car has knocked someone down at Camberwell Green/Denmark Hill Second incident within a minute’s walk this week."

Camberwell New Road is currently blocked and buses are on diversion causing severe traffic in the area.
