A 23-year-old man has been charged with criminal damage and trespassing after allegedly scaling Parliament.

Braydon Liam Anderson, of Portland Place, Northampton, was arrested following incident on the roof of the Palace of Westminster yesterday evening.

Police negotiators, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service were called at 9pm when witnesses saw the man clambering on top of the building.

He was detained following an eight hour stand-off and taken to a police station.

Anderson will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

The roof has been the scene of stunts by campaign groups in the past, including by protesters demonstrating against plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport in 2008, and Greenpeace a year later.
