An Olympics fan who had tickets to every day of the Games has died after watching Team GB win gold in the cycling.

Conrad Readman, 49, was found collapsed in the toilets at the velodrome on Friday and is suspected of having a heart attack.

Mr Readman from Colchester had booked two weeks off work to enjoy the Olympics and had already seen more than a dozen events, including the opening ceremony and the rowing.

He was found collapsed shortly after watching Victoria Pendleton win the women's keirin, and Team GB’s men’s pursuit team win a gold medal.

He was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The chartered accountant lived with and cared for his elderly mother Joan.

She said: “Conrad had been looking forward to the Olympics ever since it was announced and there was never a day he was not excited about it.

"He was coming home every night so excited and telling me about everything he had done during the day."

Officers from the Met police broke the news to her.

She said: “My neighbour came and held my hand and they told me he had a heart attack.

"He had never had a problem with his heart and had not been to a doctor in 15 years.

"He died doing something he loved so I am happy he was where he was, but I can't watch any of it now.

"I had it on all day, every day but I can't bear it now - it's so sad."

Tim Peyton, Mr Readman’s employer and friend, said: “I have worked with him since 1982 and am shocked.

“He was a lynchpin for us. Clients and staff liked him. He will be sorely missed."

Mr Readman was also a season ticket holder for Tottenham Hotspur and had watched England's football team play around the world.
