London weather: Queen's birthday weekend washout predicted... and flooding could return next week

Forecasters have warned the Queen's 90th birthday weekend could be a washout as rain is set to hit London this weekend.

Heavy downpours could dampen the mood as celebrations are set to be marred by the great British weather.

Londoners have also been advised to check weather forecasts for next week as heavy rain could bring more flooding.

Forecaster Sophie Yeomans said: “It’s a bit of a mixed bag through most of the weekend, there’s a risk we could see some rain moving in so my advice would be to take a brolly for the Queen’s birthday.

“Temperatures will drop a bit but it will still feel quite warm in places, the temperature could range from 20 to 24 degrees on Saturday.

“Moving into Sunday it will be cooler, with temperatures around 18 degrees, and we could get quite a few heavy showers moving through.”

Biblical rain hit London over Tuesday and Wednesday, with surface flooding so deep that cars were submerged and people had to be rescued from the water.

Ms Yeomans has warned Londoners to keep an eye on the weather forecast next week and did not rule out more serious flooding.

She added: “It’s all going to be quite slow moving and there’s certainly a risk of seeing some heavy showers on Monday and Tuesday coming through and there is a risk of seeing some surface flooding.”
