Londoners would be advised to dig out their umbrellas today with heavy downpours set to lash the capital.

The unsettled spell comes following a weekend of mild temperatures in the capital which stretched into the start of the week.

Met Office forecasters predicted heavy showers this morning before brighter intervals in the afternoon with the mercury expected to rise to 17C.

Temperatures could rise gradually tomorrow but outbreaks of rain are expected.

Experts forecasted a “bright and breezy” Friday but warned of a potential weekend washout with long spells of heavy rain and wind on Saturday and Sunday.

On Monday, the Met Office released its long-range forecast which predicted Britain will bask in hot summer temperatures before taking a wetter turn.

The three-month prediction said London is set for a hotter than average summer but won’t be as warm as last year.

The Met Office also warned warned hurricanes formed by the La Nina weather phenomenon could result in heavy downpours in Britain by August.
