London weather: Capital set to sizzle with temperatures hotter than Ibiza

Sebastian Mann3 May 2016

Scorching temperatures are set to make London hotter than Ibiza this weekend.

The mercury will hit 23C thanks to a band of warm air sweeping in from the south-east, forecasters say.

It will mark a significant break with recent wet and blustery conditions which meant for many the bank holiday weekend was a washout.

The average temperature for this time of year in London is 16C, meaning the weekend is set to be seven degrees above average.

Mediterranean party island Ibiza is forecast to see temperatures of 22C while Istanbul will probably only see 20C - the same as Manchester.

Met Office forecaster Emma Boorman said: "On Monday the temperature is going to be a couple of degrees above what we would expect with highs of about 16C.

"As we go into the middle and later stages of the work we start to bring in a south-easterly breeze allowing some warmer temperatures to arrive into the UK.

"By Friday and Saturday we are looking at temperatures in the high twenties which will be a welcome change."
