We’ve all been ensconsed in a boring commute on the Victoria Line on the London Underground, with our faces in another customer’s armpit, but not all of us have been serenaded by a hilarious Tube driver to make the journey more bearable.

Now, Twitter user Katie Pennick and Campaigns and Policy manager for Transport For All, has revealed that while she took her last trip on the Victoria Line, things took a turn towards the surreal, when the driver started to make announcements over the tannoy, instead of just letting the usual updates roll.

Taking to Twitter, she shared a video of the hilarious announcement, alongside the caption: “Driver of the Victoria Line train I’m on has gone fully rogue.

“Has turned off announcements and doing them himself.

“Doing a lot of puns and trivia.

“At one point he started singing (Queen: I want to break free).

“He called Euston ‘Whitney Houston’.’’

In the video, the driver can be heard singing:

“Let’s go round again! Baby one more time. Let’s go round again.”

In response, Katie says: “Oh my god.”

Before the tannoy announces: “This is Brixton”.

Other social media users found the announcement hilarious, as well as sharing that they’d also come across the driver in the past.

One said: “I actually love this driver! I’ve heard him a couple of times on the Victoria line. Brightened my day up immensely! Not sure he’s going to win a singing contest any time soon though ...”

Another added: “Puns, you say? I want to befriend this man.”

A third commented: “I had a great train driver to Exmouth once like this, jokes and fun facts all the way. Spreading some joy.”

This isn’t the first time a Tube driver has had their carriage of customers in stitches.

In January, food blogger Lucy captured hilarious jokes uttered by a Tube driver, and shared the video to TikTok, where it got an impressive 345,000 views.

In the video, the jolly Tube driver said: “To those unfortunate to have just joined us we’re having a lovely time rhyming stations. Well, I’m having a lovely time, I can’t speak for everybody else.”

Continuing to amuse the crowds, she said: “Welcome to the Northern Line, a bit like the Victoria Line only a bit more rubbish.

My London reports that she then started singing the stations to the tune of Twelve Days of Christmas: “We will now call at many Clapham stations, Balham, two lots of Tooting, Colliers Wood, South Wimbledon and then Morden and home for tea.”

Well, if we must be subjected to the London Underground (especially at the height of summer), then any light relief is more than welcome.
