A campaign which saw positive messages supporting the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community emblazoned on buses has won an award.

London Pride and Barclays joined forces to launch the #FreedomTo project this summer, supported by celebrities such as Tom Daley, Stephen Fry, Kylie Minogue and Ben Cohen.

The campaign was named winner of the Advert of the Year at the Stonewall Awards ceremony last night, which honours people who have made a positive contribution to the LGBT community.

An array of LGBT supporters featured in videos played on the London Underground holding signs explaining what London Pride gave them the freedom to do as part of the project.

Viewers were also invited to send in their own images on social media sites, with the campaign reaching 64 million people during 24 hours around the London Pride parade.

It was the first ever advert designed for London Pride and was also displayed at Barclay’s branches across the capital.

Some of Barclay’s staff, including a transgender member of staff, also featured in the campaign.

Other winners at the awards include Pride, a film about gay activists supporting miners, and Emmerdale’s Alicya Eno for her portrayal of lesbian character Ruby Haswell.

Stonewall chief executive Ruth Hunt said: “Stonewall’s 2014 Award winners really do demonstrate the passion, commitment and diversity of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people and their allies, who together make the world a better place.”
