London Marathon organisers have said they will investigate after a video emerged of people taking crates of bottles of water from the race route.
The video, which has been shared thousands of times on Facebook and Twitter, is said to have been filmed in Deptford at some point during the 36th London Marathon on Sunday.
The clip shows groups of people picking up multipacks of water from the marathon route and loading them into pull along shopping trolleys.
As the footage continues, some marathon participants can be seen passing the group.
The person filming the video then turns the camera on to himself and says: “Obviously hard times in Deptford."
Hugh Brasher, event director for London Marathon Events Ltd, said it was "very disappointing" water meant for runners had been taken.
He added: "We always brief our volunteers not to get into altercations if this kind of thing happens.
"We’ll investigate this further.”
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Service told the Standard they were aware of the video but added they had received no allegations of theft and no arrests had been made.
