London fire: Finsbury Park pavement blaze erupts minutes after incident in Holborn

Flames erupted from a north London pavement hours after a blaze under a major road in Holborn.

A faulty fuse box under the pavement in Finsbury Park caused the blaze and triggered a power outage in the area.

The London Fire Brigade said they were called at around 1.09pm to reports of a fire in a manhole in Finsbury Park Road.

A spokeswoman said: "It was an electrical fuse box in the pavement.

"Four people had left a nearby building before the brigade arrived and the incident had ended by around 3.39pm."

Nobody was thought to have been injured in the fire.

It comes as a "major incident" was declared when a blaze broke out underneath Kingsway in Holborn.

Around 2,000 people had to flee nearby offices as the LFB were called at 12.40pm.

A witness to the Finsbury Park fire tweeted: "So massive fires under the pavement in Holborn AND on my boyfriend's street in Finsbury Park. What's going on?"

Another person wrote: "So - there's a fire going on 5-mins from my work in Holborn AND 5-mins from my flat in Finsbury Park. Hmmm..."
