Liverpool Street Tube station was closed this morning after a fire alert.

Central, Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City line trains were not stopping at the station while the incident was being investigated.

Transport for London (TfL) tweeted: "Liverpool Street station has been closed to the @centralline @circleline @metline and @hamandcityline due to a fire alert."

A TfL spokesman said firefighters were called to reports of a fire in the underground station at 7.25am but found no evidence of a blaze and gave the "all clear" at 7.50am.

He added that the station was expected to re-open later this morning. At 8am, TfL confirmed all underground trains were running through the station again.

Overground rail trains were not affected by the closure.

A spokeswoman for Abellio Greater Anglia said rail services were running as normal but the underground station had been evacuated.
