Dozens of City workers were forced to flee their offices this afternoon as police investigated a suspect package in the Square Mile.

Bomb squad officers cordoned off a section of the road by Liverpool Street station and evacuated offices during the false alarm.

Police raced to the scene after being alerted to the suspect package at about 1.30pm.

Broadgate offices were evacuated and images emerged on Twitter of dozens of workers standing on the street near the police cordon.

Dave Letorey tweeted: “Suspect package in #Broadgate #police everywhere.”

Paul Dootson wrote: “Bomb scare at Liverpool Street.”

Geraint Smith tweeted: "Suspected bomb at Liverpool Street."

Another officer worker Katie Rippingale said herself and colleagues were told to stay at their desks rather than leave their building.

She tweeted: “Stuck in the office while there's a bomb scare downstairs.... #Broadgate #ExchangeSquare.”

City of London police later confirmed that the package had been deemed non-suspicious and the incident had been stood down.
