A five-month-old kitten was found abandoned in a parking space outside an Ikea superstore in Essex.
The RSPCA is appealing for information to find out who abandoned the cat, named Vinnie, outside the furniture store at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Grays on Wednesday night.
The grey and white youngster, thought to be half-Bengal, was left in a parking space inside the carry basket with a heartbreaking note written by its owner.
“Hi, my name is Vinnie and I am a very handsome five-month-old half Bengal boy kitten,” the message said.
“My mummy loves me very, very much but is unable to keep me for personal reasons. And I am very sad.”
The RSPCA said the cat was in a good condition and that a pouch of cat food and some toys were also left in the carrier.
A shopper discovered the cat and took him home to look after him before calling the animal charity.
RSPCA Inspector Marie Hammerton, who collected the cat, said: “Vinnie’s owner took him into Ikea and tried to give him away but when they were told the cat couldn’t be taken in, he was left in the car park in his carrier.
“He was found in his carry basket in a parking space. A car reversing into the space could have easily failed to spot the carrier and run him over so he’s very lucky he was rescued when he was."
Vinnie will be rehomed if he has not been claimed within seven days.
