Kenwood House summer concerts axed due to poor ticket sales

The popular summer concerts at Kenwood House in Hampstead have been axed this year after making “major losses” last year.

English Heritage, who run the property and its grounds, said low ticket sales in 2013 meant the company appointed to provide the concerts for three years could not continue to organise them.

Rouge Events presented a line-up including Suede and Keane and a concert performance of Singing in the Rain. Past concerts have included Deborah Harry and Ray Davies of the Kinks alongside the traditional classical performances.

The heritage body said that despite its best efforts it had not been able to get an alternative concert promoter to take them on.

Alex Sydney, head of historic properties in London, said: “We are very disappointed not to be able to host concerts at Kenwood this summer, But we really hope the concerts can return in 2015 in some shape or form, and we are looking at a number of options which might enable this to happen.”

This is not the first time that there have been no picnic concerts at Kenwood. There were no concerts in 2012 after English Heritage failed to reach an agreement with its then concert managers, IMG, and 2007, after neighbours complained about noise and traffic.

There are plans for a food and drink festival at the end of May. ends
