The Independents Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating the death of a man who was found unconscious after being ejected from a police station.

The 63-year-old man visited Uxbridge police station on March 4 to reclaim his property and paramedics were called after police staff became “concerned for his welfare”.

The man was assessed by London Ambulance Service but was not taken to hospital and remained at the police station.

Police said at about 1am on March 5, the man was ejected from the front office and at 5.30am he was found unconscious outside the police station.

He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead at 6.45am.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards was informed of the man’s death due to previous contact with police and a referral was made to the IPCC.

Chief superintendent Nick Downing, Hillingdon’s borough commander, said: “It is only right and proper that a full independent investigation is carried out into how we dealt with this man.

“This is important for the confidence of every affected, including this man’s family, communities in London and our police officers.

“The IPCC will receive our full support.”
