A husband and wife have become an online sensation after he tweeted a picture of an endearing list he'd made of all the things that had made her cry.

Aaron Gillies, 28, kept a record of all the things that brought his 31-year-old wife Lex to tears in the last month.

They included: "She found out swans can be gay and thought it was really nice", and "she was hungover and saw a picture of a piglet", and, further down the list, "she remembered swans can be gay."

Mr Gillies, an author who lives with his wife in Willesden Green, described his wife as a "sensitive soul" and said he had been prompted to keep a record of her tearful moments after her crying became a bit of a running joke among their friends.

He told the Standard: "It's just something that I found very funny, she does it a lot. In our friendship group she's known for it as well."

When Mr Gillies tweeted a picture of some of the reasons why his beauty blogger wife had cried the pair became an instant hit, and his post has since been retweeted more than 30,000 times.

He said: "I wrote down the random reasons that she cries and it struck a chord with 30,000 people.

"I was expecting about 20 retweets because a lot of people in our friendship group know what Lex is like, but it's gone absolutely bananas.

"She's a bit overwhelmed, but a lot of people are sharing their stories with her of the really ridiculous reasons why they've burst out crying.

"One woman said she burnt a cheese sandwich and cried for about 20 minutes."

Hundreds of Twitter users have since come forward to share their own crying stories with the couple.

Kat Storr said: "I once cried at Mastermind because the old man was so clever", while another Twitter user posted: "My wife cries when we watch a cartoon with an extinct animal in it. Ice Age is right out."

Mr Gillies said his wife had also cried this month because he touched her on the head and she thought it was a pigeon, and because he brought her home some chicken nuggets.

He said: "She's just a sensitive soul, a very sensitive person.

"She's one of the happiest people you'll ever meet, but the weirdest things set her off."
