A frightened Londoner called police after they thought they had discovered a human head near a cemetery… which turned out to be a Halloween mask.

Police were called early this morning to Brunswick Park Road, outside New Southgate Cemetery in north London, to reports of a human head in the road.

But when officers arrived at 6.45am to look for it, they instead found the horror film-style mask.

Despite Halloween being more than two months away, PC Moulden of Barnet’s emergency response police team said there were parts of a Halloween costume scattered across the north London road.

The mask has now been thrown away by police.

Officers rang the person who raised the alarm - who police called "vigilant" - to tell them what the "human head" really was.
