The National Trust is on the hunt for its newest London property — and it could be your home.
Londoners who rent or own anything from a Georgian terrace house to a high-rise flat are being encouraged to submit pictures of their interesting homes for the chance to become a pop-up National Trust attraction for a weekend.
The home will also be given a makeshift tearoom for the complete National Trust experience.
Ivo Dawnay, London director of the National Trust, said: “We’re moving into the 21st century to connect people with places... democratising the National Trust.”
A panel of four judges, including Annabel Kilner of interiors firm Made.com and designer Ab Rogers of the Royal College of Art, will select the winner, looking for a property that demonstrates a creative use of a confined space, unique décor or innovative DIY solutions. A history of the property and its past occupants will be prepared for the opening in November.
All entries will be preserved by the British Library as a record of London’s social history in 2014.
Mr Dawnay said: “What we had discovered over the years was younger people are much more interested in recent heritage and history in contemporary life.
“This is not a competition for designers, it’s about real Londoners and their properties. It could be anything, from a shared student flat to a canal boat.
“We know that people are living in increasingly small places and it’s about how people manage those problems in a design sense.”
Entries from London residents can be submitted from Wednesday to October 12 on the National Trust website or by posting photos of the property on Instagram or Twitter using the tag #NTHouseproud.
