A man believed to be in his thirties has died in a house fire in East London.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to a house fire on South Avenue in Chingford at 9.52am on Monday. Most of the ground floor of a semi-detached house was damaged and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Chingford, Woodford, Enfield and Walthamstow fire stations attended the scene and the LFB said the incident was over for firefighters by 11.07am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Metropolitan Police said they were called to reports of a fire at a residential property at around 10am. The force said the man’s next of kin have been informed. Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.
