This stunning picture shows what is being dubbed the last 'supermoon' of the summer over London.

The beautiful scene, also known as a Harvest Moon because it is the full moon that falls closest to the autumnal equinox, was captured in north London last night.

Across the world similar sights were recorded by photographers.

In Hong Kong, the moon seen shining behind lanterns at the Wonderland Mid-Autumn festival in Victoria Park.

It was also spotted rising in the sky above the domes of the Smolny Cathedral in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Scientists call the phenomenon a 'perigee moon'.

It occurs when the moon is near the horizon and appears larger and brighter than other full moons. This is the third and final time it will be seen in 2014.
