Fire crews were called to tackle a huge fire at a former social club in north west London this morning.

The blaze ripped through the disused building, which locals said had been empty for more than a year, in Harlesden just after 6am today.

Plumes of black smoke were seen rising from the roof of the site on Craven Park.

More than 70 firefighters were sent to tackle the flames at the site of the former Steps club.

Crews from Park Royal and the surrounding fire stations were sent to the blaze and brought it under control within about two hours, a spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said.

The cause of the fire, which damaged the roof and first floor of the building, is under investigation, he added.

The incident caused delays for motorists after surrounding roads were closed off.
