Reports of a bomb threat sparked a school evacuation in London on Tuesday.

Police swooped to the scene at Stoke Newington School, Clissold Road, at around 3.16pm.

Officers evacuated the school, nearby homes and a leisure centre in the wake of the report.

The school and leisure centre were reopened shortly before 6pm after a search was carried out in the area.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said earlier: “Police were called to a school in Clissold Road, Stoke Newington at 3.16pm on Tuesday, September 14, following a report of a bomb threat.

“Officers attended. The school, nearby properties and a leisure centre have been evacuated as a precaution.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

Police tape was put up around the area while the search was carried out.

The police later tweeted: “The scene in Clissold Road, Stoke Newington, has been closed after a full search was carried out. All buildings in the area that were closed have now been reopened.”
