A schoolgirl was crushed to death by a wooden pallet in a freak half-term accident, it emerged today.

Cassie Green, 12, became trapped under the wooden crate while playing in a driveway in the upmarket commuter village of Anerley, near Crystal Palace.

Neighbours told how paramedics and air ambulance doctors lifted off the pallet, said to have been laden with stone, and fought to resuscitate her at the scene.

She was rushed to hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Met spokesman said officers were called at 6pm on February 17 to reports that a child was trapped under a pallet.

A London Ambulance spokeswoman LAS said: “We sent an ambulance crew, a single responder in a car, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance. We took a patient to hospital.”

A file is being prepared for the coroner.
