Fulham’s Michael Jackson statue set to beat it back to Mohamed Fayed

The much-maligned statue of Michael Jackson outside Fulham’s Craven Cottage football ground is to be returned to former owner Mohamed Fayed.

The sculpture of the late singer — commissioned after his death in 2009 and intended for Harrods — became an object of ridicule for fans, with Fayed telling critics they could “go to hell” if they did not like it.

He sold the club for £150 million this summer to Shahid Khan, the owner of the American NFL team the Jacksonville Jaguars, and now wants his keepsake back.

Fayed joked with Khan that there would be “big trouble” if the statue disappeared. A spokesman for Fulham said: “The statue is not part of the Riverside development of the stadium.”
