A former Royal Marine commando who lost his arm and leg in a landmine blast while serving in Afghanistan has completed a poppy-shaped charity run around London.

Ben McBean, 27, is hoping to raise £100,000 for the Royal British Legion following his 31-mile run through the capital ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

He was congratulated on the finish line by Prince Harry, who he served with in Afghanistan and has hailed him a "hero".

Londoners who want to show their support are being invited to "run or walk the streets within the outline of the poppy to help him complete the image", according to his JustGiving page.

After his epic achievement, he said: "The run was both physically and emotionally exhausting, but so rewarding."

The Royal British Legion’s Director of Fundraising Charles Byrne said the money raised would go towards care for ex-servicemen and women.

He said: "We hope that Ben's run will inspire many others to take part in this exciting challenge."

The Vodafone Foundation is supporting the fundraiser by pledging to match every pound donated.
