A ferret has been found and rescued at Victoria Tube station.

The pet was seen wandering the entrance hall when staff called the RSPCA for help.

On arrival, animal rescuer Mat Hawkins, couldn’t locate the animal which sparked a quick search for the ferret.

“When I arrived, the ferret was nowhere to be seen, there were plenty of holes for her to hide in.

"I asked staff members to open the cupboard where the barriers fold into, and after a little wait the little ferret decided she’d quite like to be rescued after all and I caught her quite easily, she was clearly really tame and let me pick her up,” he said.

It is not yet sure if the animal was abandoned or had gone missing at this time but the animal has been taken to Finsbury Park Animal Hospital. It will then be taken to an RSPCA centre if the owner doesn’t come forward.

Mr Hawkins said: “We don’t know how long she’d been there, but it was at least three days.

“We don’t pick up many abandoned ferrets, so this was unusual. But to care for these animals properly does take time as well as a bit of expertise.”
