The Electric Brixton is celebrating its 100th birthday with a photography exhibition about its rich history.

The venue opened in the days of silent movies as The Palladium Picture House cinema before becoming live music venue The Ace, which hosted punk and New Romantic bands in the Seventies and Eighties.

Past: the venue in the 1970s

It became The Fridge nightclub in the mid-Eighties and recently underwent a major renovation before reopening as the Electric Brixton in 2011.

Acts that played there include The Smiths, The Clash, New Order, Eurythmics, Pet Shop Boys, Franz Ferdinand, Rudimental and Emeli Sandé.

History: the Electric as The Palladium Picture House

Owner Dominic Madden said it was an “amazing venue” which had hosted some of the world’s greatest rocks stars and artists. “We want to hear from anyone who has old photographs of the venue, either showing the acts on stage or other unusual images of the building,” he said. “The best images will form part of the exhibition which aims to tell the story of a building which has seen so much over the years.”

The exhibition will take place in May. Any photographs should be sent to photos@electricbrixton.uk.com.
