More than 70 firefighters this morning battled a massive fire near the M25.
The scale of the pallet warehouse blaze on Whitewebb Lane, Enfield, sparked travel warnings as smoke posed a risk to drivers on the London orbital motorway.
Firefighters were called shortly after 2am and the fire was "under control" by 6am.
But the London Fire Brigade said it was likely to remain at the scene until at least lunchtime as efforts continued to fully extinguish the blaze
A warehouse larger than a football field was destroyed by the flames, which reached high into the sky.
Eight cars, seven forklift trucks, six lorries and three caravans were also said to have been badly damaged.
Two men were evacuated from a nearby caravan before firefighters arrived at the scene, but there was no early indication of any injuries.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
LFB’s Deputy Assistant Commissioner Graham Ellis was at the scene.
He said: “This is a difficult fire to fight but crews worked exceptionally hard to bring it under control.
"Firefighters will remain at the scene throughout the morning damping down pockets of fire."
Earlier he warned it was likely to affect the morning rush hour as smoke billowed across the M25 between junctions 24 and 25.
The Highways Agency also issued an alert.
