An elderly man has been airlifted to hospital this evening after being hit by a van in east London.

Police and paramedics were called to reports of a road traffic collision in Stamford Hill, Stoke Newington, at the junction with Cazenove Road at 5.15pm.

A Metropolitan Police Service spokesman said when officers arrived, an elderly man was being treated for head injuries after a collision involving a van.

London’s Air Ambulance was also called and landed on nearby Stoke Newington Common before taking the man to an east London hospital.

Road closures were put in place while emergency services attended and bus services were placed on diversion.
