East London wall D*Faced with art

This enormous mural, painted across a wall in east London, is the latest work of urban artist D*Face.

Dean Stockton, 36, from Dulwich, who usually creates pop-art style installations, sculpture and paintings, believes the mural is the largest outdoor work in the capital. It is 13 metres tall by 26 metres wide.

D*Face studied art in London and has been active for 15 years. He has been shown in galleries from New York to Los Angeles and Tokyo, specialising in re-working comic books, advertisements and currency to make social comments.

Some of his most recognisable London pieces were a giant £20 note that featured a defaced queen and read “more punk than you punk” and a fake missile that appeared to be submerged into a pavement in the East End.

This mural, on Commercial Street near Spitalfields market, is part of the artist’s latest collection, New World Disorder.

The work has just finished showing at Brick Lane’s StolenSpace Gallery, where Mr Stockton is a partner and gallerist, and the collection will now be shown in Tokyo.
