Driver of BMW convertible caught 'playing Pokémon GO at the wheel'

This is the moment a motorist was allegedly caught playing Pokémon GO at the wheel.

The footage was captured by a cyclist and road safety campaigner, who wished to be known only as 'The Legend of Justice', on Warwick Road in Westminster yesterday evening.

The footage shows the cyclist pull up alongside to the black BMW convertible at traffic lights, and captures the driver with his mobile phone in hand.

As the cyclist aims his camera towards the car, the footage appears to clearly show the Pokémon logo on the motorist's phone.

When the biker confronts the man behind the wheel, the sheepish-looking driver drops the phone into his knee.

Pokémon GO: the driver was apparently playing the game at the wheel

The cyclist told the Standard: "I think the smile on his face gave him away after I mentioned Pokémon.

"After being hit sevem times since 2009, I think it's time to clean up the streets. I am no vigilante. I just report as it happens.

"This new craze is more frightening, and a matter of time before we hear of Pokémon-related driving accidents.

"If I were a cop I would bust all day long. The police should have officers in plain clothes riding around with cameras, there are not enough on the streets I'm afraid."

The Pokémon GO craze, which is sweeping the nation and the world, has already reportedly led to players risking their lives by playing near railway tracks, while in America players have reportedly been lured to isolated spots by thieves aimed at snatching their phones.

The cyclist said he had passed the footage to the Met Police's Traffic Offence Reporting Team.
