A motorist who jumped a red signal was immediately pulled over by a police officer who had been waiting at the lights right beside her car.

In the clip, uploaded online yesterday, a white car can be seen accelerating away from the Metropolitan Police officer's motorbike at a junction.

The officer then immediately puts on their blue flashing lights and speeds after the car.

Video footage of the bizarre incident was uploaded to YouTube by user Paul Smith.

The clip, which has been viewed more than 75,000 times, was titled: "Woman jumps red light only to get a surprise!"

Many YouTube users were quick to criticise the offending driver.

One said: "Someone who can't see the cop right next to her probably shouldn't be driving just on the reasons of having no damn awareness of her surroundings."

Another wrote: "How stupid can anyone be to do this with a police officer standing just near you, one metre away?"

It is not yet clear exactly where or when the footage was filmed.
