More than 44,600 Covid cases have been recorded for London in just a week, with an 11-month daily high and hospitalisations also rising, official figures reveal Friday.
They show 7,761 confirmed coronavirus infections were announced on Thursday, a level not seen since January 22.
The weekly total of cases in the capital has also jumped to 44,635, with the bulk still the Delta variant but the Omicron mutation spreading, with at least 200 cases of it confirmed so far.
There were 148 patients admitted to the city’s hospitals with coronavirus on Tuesday, a high since August 24.
There were 1,163 Covid patients on London’s wards as of Thursday, a figure which dipped below 1,000 at the end of November, with the last time it was above 1,163 being in mid-September.
The data also showed 197 coronavirus patients were so ill that they are on ventilators, with the last time the figure was higher being September 23.
The highest seven-day case rate is among ten to 14-year-olds, of 1,028.6 confirmed infections per 100,000 youngsters in this age group in the week to December 4.
Children rarely get severe Covid illness.
The second highest rate was five to nine-year-olds at 819.7, followed by 40 to 44-year-olds at 665.6, highlighting how the virus is spreading among families.
For the whole of London, across all age groups, the seven-day rate was 462.4, up 25.3 per cent in a week.
So far, 6,193,855 first dose vaccines have been administered in London, 5,630,515 second doses, and 2,125,107 boosters or third doses for individuals vulnerable to the virus.
Fifteen deaths were announced yesterday in London, within 28 days of the individuals testing postive for Covid, with 17,151 such fatalities having taken place since the start of the pandemic.
