Child dies after being found ‘unresponsive’ in Woolwich home

Police are treating the death of a young child as “unexpected” after they were found unresponsive at home in south London.

Emergency services battled to save the infant, who has not been identified, after being called to Shrewsbury Lane, Woolwich at 3.23pm on Tuesday.

Paramedics called police to the residence after finding the child unresponsive before rushing them to hospital.

Tragically the baby was pronounced dead at a south east London hospital at 4.55pm.

There have been no reports of any arrests.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police were called to an address in Shrewsbury Lane SE18 after a child was found unresponsive.

“The child – an infant - was taken to a south east London hospital and later pronounced dead at around 4.55pm.

“Next of kin are aware.

“The death is currently being treated as unexpected.

“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
