One of London’s oldest gardens opens an exhibition of giant outdoor sculptures today inspired by its founding mission as a place for the study of plants useful in medicine.

The Chelsea Physic Garden, which was established in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries, invited more than 20 artists to produce work for the show.

Curator David Worthington said the project grew in response to the history and legacy of the garden and its scientific work.

“The more all of us researched into that history the more we discovered,” he said.

Pertaining to Things Natural runs until October 31 and is included in the £9/£6 admission charge.
