Chelsea fans were reportedly attacked by masked thugs in Ukraine just hours before the team’s Champions League clash with Dynamo Kiev.

Elderly supporters were allegedly among those punched to the ground and left covered in cuts and bruises after an unprovoked attack in the capital Kiev.

About 30 fans were reportedly ambushed by people in balaclavas late on Monday night, after leaving a bar near the city’s central Independence Square.

One fan, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Daily Mail: “It was orchestrated. Five guys turned up at the pub and sussed us out.

“One was texting at the bar and they were obviously lying in wait to have a dig.”

At least one fan required hospital treatment, the paper reported.

Chelsea take on Dynamo Kiev at 7.45pm tonight and have about 1,100 fans travelling to the match.

The Evening Standard has contacted both clubs to ask for a comment.
