The Queen and The Duchess of Cornwall today made a rare joint engagement when they visited a community riding school in the heart of Brixton, south London.

Camilla was at her mother-in-law’s side as they visited the Ebony Horse Club.

The joint visit today will be seen as further confirmation of The Queen’s support for Camilla’s public role and future status.

It comes just days after a Time magazine report by a journalist given close access to Prince Charles’s inner circle that he wants his wife to be Queen Consort when the time comes.

Clarence House has said when Charles and Camilla wed that the Duchess would become Princess Consort.

Today’s joint engagement was a clear signal in The Queen’s confidence in Camilla’s public position.

Established in 1996 the charity they visited today enables children and young South Londoners to learn to ride and care for horses.

The royals arrived together and be greeted by Miss Sue York, Chairwoman of Ebony Horse Club, and Miss Ros Spearing, Director of Ebony Horse Club.

The Queen and Camilla then toured the stables and classroom, meeting young riders, volunteers, staff and supporters.

They also watched a riding display in the outdoor arena and meet riders and horses, before The Queen unveiled a plaque.

The Club is a charity helping improve the life skills, education and aspirations of some of the most disadvantaged children and young people growing up in the Brixton area.

Many of the Club members are children with special educational needs, those at threat of expulsion and excluded from school, and those in need of extra support.

Cameron Chapman, 13, said: “I am actually surprised The Queen is coming here to Brixton because this place is full of trouble.

“I live in a block over the road and watched it develop and wanted to get involved.”
