Brian Sewell’s swipe at BBC ‘nitwits’

Two leading arts experts have branded the presenters of BBC culture programmes “vacuous” and “nitwits”.

Speaking at the Oxford Literary Festival, Standard critic Brian Sewell said he “loathed” the BBC’s treatment and was particularly scathing about the 2011 programme Da Vinci: The Lost Treasure, presented by Fiona Bruce. He described it as “the most unforgivable thing the BBC ever did ... and it is fronted by that vacuous woman gushing.”

Sir Roy Strong said: “I am sick to death of doing television broadcasts fronted by nitwits. I always think they should have a sympathy and knowledge of the subject.”
