Three police officers have been hailed as heroes after dragging a woman from a burning building.

PC Steven Hartrey, PC James Morrison, PC Ady Nadeem were called to reports of a fire at a property on Millman Street shortly before 3.20 on June 27.

The trio broke down the door before entering the property in a desperate search for people stranded inside.

The officers pulled a woman to safety from the basement bedroom.

They were later taken to hospital along with the woman where they were treated for smoke inhalation before being discharged,

Several flats were evacuated following the blaze which is being treated as non-suspicious.

Superintendent Gary Buttercase of Camden Police said, “The officers took a bold and brave decision to force entry into the premises in the knowledge that waiting could result in the loss of life.

“This is another example of the everyday heroism that police officers across London show 24-hours a day. I’m immensely proud of the actions of these officers and it’s a fitting reminder of why police officers choose to do the job they do.

“We’re here to keep Londoners safe, uphold the law and bring criminals to justice. The preservation of life is always our number one priority in these incidents.”
