An 8-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after he was struck by a car in what is believed to be a hit-and-run collision in south London.

The child was found by police and medics who responded to a report of a crash between a car and a pedestrian in Brixton at around 11.20am.

The collision took place in New Park Road at the junction with Doverfield Road, close to Brixton Hill where a bus and a car collided hours earlier.

The boy has been taken to a south London hospital where officers are awaiting an update on his condition.

Police said they are investigating after the car failed to stop at the scene.
