Boris Johnson landed in Japan today to “bang the drum” for London on a whistlestop tour of the world’s third largest economy.

The Mayor will meet Japanese politicians, business leaders and investors on his three-day trip to Osaka, Tokyo and Yokohama.

Science, fashion and motoring will dominate the agenda as he builds business links - Japan is the fourth largest investor in the capital and trade totalled £950 million last year.

London’s sporting expertise will also feature as Japan prepares to host the Rugby World Cup in 2019 and the Olympic and Paralympic games in 2020.

Mr Johnson said: “Japan is one of the world’s most important economic powerhouses with enormous potential for stronger partnerships with the capital.

"We have plenty of knowledge and expertise to share across many important sectors.

"This is our chance to loudly bang the drum for London.”
