A BBC cameraman was treated for injuries after an alleged fracas outside Jeremy Corbyn’s home.

A Labour spokesman denied reports that one of the party leader’s aides had been involved.

She said: “It was not a Labour Party employee but an employee of the government car service.”

A spokesman for the Department for Transport, which oversees the official cars for ministers and other VIPs, said it would issue a statement later today.

A video of the alleged incident has since been posted on Twitter.

The footage shows Mr Corbyn leaving his home following a woman before he hugs a man waiting outside.

While the embrace is being filmed, the image becomes hazy and it appears the camera lands on the floor.

Michael Crick, Channel 4's political correspondent, has posted a series of tweets about the incident which is reported to have occurred yesterday.

He said: "BBC cameraman in hospital last night with neck and face injuries.

"Cameraman in alleged incident outside Corbyn home was seen in hospital wearing neck brace & with bruise to his face."

He added: "BBC press office won't even confirm incident happened. 40 minutes ago BBC promised me a statement. Still not ready."

A Department for Transport spokesperson said: “We are investigating media reports of an incident yesterday involving a Government Car Service vehicle. We are looking at whether the driver was involved and the extent and nature of that involvement.”

A BBC spokesperson said: “The BBC can confirm there was an incident involving a BBC cameraman whilst filming Jeremy Corbyn leaving his home yesterday. He sustained some injuries for which he’s received treatment. The BBC has spoken to the Labour Party which has confirmed the incident involved a government driver, not a Labour Party member of staff.”
