At a cinema near you, Last Night of the Proms in 3D

The Last Night of the Proms is to be screened at cinemas for the first time — and in 3D.

The fun, fervour and patriotism of the sell-out last night at the Albert Hall, on September 8, can be enjoyed for £7 at more than 20 Odeon cinemas across the country, including Covent Garden, Kingston and Wimbledon.

Roger Wright, director of the BBC Proms, said: “Bringing the Last Night of the Proms to cinemas for the first time is a very exciting way of us reaching more people across the UK to celebrate the end of this extraordinary summer.”

Eight specialist cameras will occupy key positions, including in front of the conductor. A remote camera within the orchestra can rotate 180 degrees, pan and tilt, to give cinema-goers the feeling of being among the musicians, with a 3D view of every instrument.

But if you’ve just got to be there, standing-place tickets, at £5 each, are available on the door even for sold-out Proms concerts.
