Arsenal fans have criticised a spectator who sat in a £127 seat for a prestigious Champions League tie - only to spend the entire second half talking to his girlfriend on FaceTime.

Horrified Gunners season ticket-holder Joshua James took a snap of the loved-up fan during the club's 2-2 draw with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

The who began chatting to the woman on the face-to-face mobile app at half time in the Emirates, and was still going at the final whistle.

Mr James posted the photo on Twitter, complaining: “This is the type of fan that comes to the emirates now..facetiming his Mrs for 47 minutes.”

The 26-year-old told the Standard: “We sometimes laugh at some of the tourist fans that come along.

“Things like the selfie sticks and arriving half an hour late we get used to. But I couldn’t believe this.”

He said: “All of us were laughing when we realised how long it was going on for. When the full-time whistle went he was actually still on the phone.

“I think that’s the weirdest thing I’ve seen, although two weeks ago a scarf seller outside the ground was selling a half-and-half Tottenham scarf.”

Mr James said the man carried on with his call as goals flew in during the draw with the French side, and even started commentating for his girlfriend.

“The reason I tweeted it, to be honest, was not to have a dig at him but for people to understand how different football is now," he said.

“Arsenal have a problem with atmosphere and we’d all like something to be done about it. Stuff like this doesn’t help.”

Mr James’ post has been shared more than 1,000 times since he tweeted it on Wednesday night.

“Everything wrong with football today,” responded one fan.

But Alan Knight tweeted: “Bless, it must be love, love love.”
