A stranded dog was rescued by quick-thinking paramedics when its owner fell ill in the street in north London.

London Ambulance Service staff, based in Harrow, rushed to treat the patient but were left stumped when they discovered the four-legged pet.

The medics told the Standard there was no time to wait for someone to pick up the pooch so they lifted it into the ambulance along with the patient.

Apprentice paramedic Sarah Angelou and her colleagues made the dog a bed by the ambulance bay at Northwick Park hospital’s A&E department.

Harrow LAS shared a sweet snap of the pup wrapped in a hospital blanket with a makeshift water bowl on Twitter.

Staff even shared their peanut butter sandwiches with the animal.

Miss Angelou said: “One of our ambulance crews had been called to someone who was feeling unwell, and when they arrived they found the patient accompanied by a little dog.

“They had to get the patient to hospital as quickly as possible so took them both in the ambulance to A&E.

“While he waited, this little pup made himself at home near to the ambulance bays and so we wrapped him up to keep him warm.

“He seemed very entertained by the passing ambulance crews and hospital staff and even managed to sneak a bite of our lunch.”
