A London nurse has secured a leading role at the Games - running the Olympic Stadium's medical centre.

Tracy Holmes, who works as a nurse practitioner at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, will be in charge of ensuring that injured athletes and spectators who fall ill get medical help. Ms Holmes said she was "honoured" to be given the role.

"It's a huge responsibility to ensure top-class athletes and spectators get the right treatment, and potentially treating them myself in the stands of the stadium," she said.

"We'll also get involved in test events so that medical staff can practise their roles and to check that I rota enough staff."
