‘Child hospice allowed my son to die comfortably at home’

A mother who lost her two-year-old son to cancer today told of the “amazing” care her family received from a children’s hospice.

Elin Solomon said support from Shooting Star Children’s Hospices enabled Axel to die at home.

Axel was diagnosed with brain and spinal cancer aged nine months and died in December 2017.

Mrs Solomon, 39, said it was important to her and husband Will, 41, that Axel was comfortable.

They first received care from the charity’s Christopher’s hospice in summer 2017.

Mrs Solomon said it was “amazing” as “staff cared for him at night, then we could do things together during the day”.

She shared Axel’s story to promote the hospice’s Christmas campaign, which launches today.
