Opus Dei to open first school in London

11 February 2013

The Roman Catholic movement Opus Dei is to support the opening of its first secondary school in south London.

The organisation already runs two prep schools in Clapham and Purley, but the independent single-sex school for boys and girls, with fees of £3,900 a term, will be its first senior school in Britain.

The Cedars School is expected to open in Croydon in September. It is understood that the new school will not be directly funded by the Catholic organisation, but it will be run by a parent-led charity group which has links with Opus Dei. One of its priests is expected to be school chaplain. The school will have an initial intake of 46 boys.
