Mother wins award for autism school

23 January 2013

A London mother who set up Britain’s largest school for autistic children has won a parenting award.

Anna Kennedy, from Hillingdon, was today named “Mum of the Year” after launching the school and providing support for parents of children with autism.

Mrs Kennedy, 52, re mortgaged her house to start Hillingdon Manor School because she could not find suitable education for her two sons Patrick and Angleo, who have Asperger’s syndrome and autism.

Since it opened in 1999 the independent school has grown to become the largest of its kind in Europe and now educates 150 pupils.

Mrs Kennedy will be presented with her Tesco “Mum of the Year” award at the Savoy in March after being nominated by family and friends.
