Grant for ‘old school tie’ scheme to help state school students

18 April 2012

An “old school tie” network that aims to get London state school students into good careers has been so successful it will roll out across the country.

Future First, which sets up alumni groups in schools in the capital, has been given a £250,000 government grant to expand its scheme.

The social enterprise arranges for former pupils to revisit the places they learned in so they can inspire teenagers and give advice about choosing a career.

The grant will be used to develop a website so 500 more schools can track former pupils and send them updates. The aim is for all state schools to set up alumni networks.

Future First was started last year by a group of friends who attended William Ellis School in Camden.
